Unexpected guest of the recent Qualcomm event, where SoC was presented Snapdragon 845 and the first laptops on SoC Snapdragon 835 running Windows 10, became vice president and general manager of the division client solutions AMD Kevin Lensing, who announced a partnership between AMD and Qualcomm. It turns out that AMD also took part in the development of ARM-notebooks HP and ASUS, created within the concept of “Always Connected PC”, implying the mandatory presence of a gigabit LTE-modem to ensure a permanent Internet connection outside the coverage of Wi-Fi.
Alas, what specifically was the role of AMD, Lensing did not specify, and no other details about the obligations imposed by the partnership agreement, the head of the “white-green” also did not report. However, the Qualcomm technical survey, which began this Monday, December 4, will last all this week, so details about the partnership may become known in the very near future.
This year, AMD launched a number of key products, including the flagship desktop HEDT-processor AMD Ryzen ThreadRipper and mobile chips Ryzen with integrated graphics Radeon Vega. And the partnership with Qualcomm seems to be AMD’s next important step, as well as the opportunity to inflict another blow to the positions of the market leader Intel. Perhaps in the future we are waiting for laptops Always Connected PC and on AMD processors, which used to repeatedly combine the two most popular processor architectures in one product.
